How to: Know Which Corrective Shade to Use

Well now that CC creams are becoming more popular and concealer in all colours of the rainbow are popping up, it is definitely confusing to think about which shade of colour one should use for which area of their complexion. The concealers, meant to be worn under foundation, are able to correct the differences in the tone of your skin from undereye circles to redness, but the right colour must be used for optimal results. So below are some common corrective colours and how and where to use them.

Orange cancels out blue, and should be applied over dark eye circles after late nights. It would also be useful to put over any visible veins.

Yellow cancels out purple, for dark eye circles as well as any bruising.

Blue is the answer to under eye circles for darker skin tones, and can be used as a brightener for dull skin as well. If you are a victim of a tan gone wrong, you'll want to pick up some of this stuff.

Pink can be thought of as the blue for lighter skin tones, with abilities to brighten up dark or dull areas.

Green, the solution to redness, great for anything from acne to rosacea to any other reason your skin is red.

The rule seems to be to look at a colour wheel, and use the colour opposite of the colour of what you are trying to conceal to conceal it. (Hope that sentence was understandable) But like with the blue and the pink, your skin tone will also determine which corrective shades are best, and darker skin tones will mean that darker shades of green and orange should be used while lighter skin tones will require lighter shades for correction.

I hope this has helped you figure out which shades you might like to try!

  9. This has been both informative and helpful - I hadn't realised that yellow cancelled out purple and so was good for under eye dark circles, I'll definitely bear that in mind! :)
